This year, we are celebrating with Jenny’s side half way between Christmas and Thanksgiving. So, we wanted to do something fun and creative. Jenny chose the party theme “Guacin’ Around the Christmas Tree” to host in our home. You know, like “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree,” except with everyone’s favorite avocado-based treat!
For decorations, Adam’s mom suggested Chili Pepper shaped Christmas lights, and we found a disposable table cloth to match. For a menu, we had red and green tortilla chips, guacamole, and flavored salsas as appetizers. When folks arrived, we had a “Feliz Navidad” themed playlist playing in the background.
As folks arrived everyone took time to play with our 10 month old nephew- he was the center of attention! He is at an age where he loves to play with today, be tickled, and read stories together. Right before the meal, we took family photos! We actually have a tripod and a remote for taking family photos, so everyone can be in the picture at the same time. Here are a few favorites.
Then, for the main course, we served a taco bar with all of the fixings. Jenny’s family brought sides, drinks, and deserts. Adam finished his meal early and took the time to go play with our nephew. Right after dinner, it was story time for Jenny’s nephew. His parents had brought his favorite book for Jenny to read to him, “Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons.” The story has a funny song that makes him giggle every time! The whole family was laughing and singing along.
Next, we played a holiday party game. Jenny and her mom bought and wrapped different items ranging from $1-$5 and wrapped them in multiple layers of paper. We took turns rolling the dice to pass, steal, or unwrap items. Laughter erupted when one of the wrapped items was a new roll of toilet paper, hidden amongst the gifts by Jenny’s goofy older brother. The gifts Jenny and her mom picked out included hand lotion, chocolate, cocoa packets, coasters, candles, mugs, and baking mixes.
It was so great to see everyone together sharing memories, planning future events, and laughing together! We look forward to sharing these types of events with more little one’s as our family grows.
