Dear Expectant Mother,
I am Christina’s younger sister and I could not be more excited to become an aunt to their precious little one. Just a little about myself and my family, I have been married to my husband for four years and we have two precious children: a two-year-old son and an infant daughter. Our family lives about 45 minutes away from Christina and Kyle so we are blessed to get to see them and spend time with them often.
I’ve obviously known Christina my entire life. Not only is she my older sister, but she is one of my best friends. She is the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman. She is bubbly, kind, and has a very nurturing way about her. She’s also a wonderful listener. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve gone to Christina with something that’s been on my heart, and she will not only listen but help me work through a solution. God knew what He was doing when he blessed me with Christina. I couldn’t imagine my life without her.
I met Kyle shortly before he and Christina began dating. At the time I was in high school and he took it upon himself to become the big brother I never had. When I met my husband, I joked with him that it wouldn’t be terribly hard to impress my dad, it was Kyle he would have to worry about. He and Kyle have a lot in common as far as their character and hobbies so thankfully they hit it off from the get-go. Kyle is the kind of person who can pick up a conversation with anyone– he’s never met a stranger. Kyle is also one of the few people I’ve met that will take the time to truly get to know someone and without even trying he can make them feel like they are the most important person in the room. I have no doubts that he will be a very involved and hands-on dad.
Christina and Kyle have both gone above and beyond to invest in our kids’ lives. Both my husband and I work fulltime and Christina will often babysit on her day off just so she can spend time with our kids and spoil them as only an auntie can do. She will often snuggle, read to, and love on our kids. I had some complications after the birth of our daughter that caused me to be back in the hospital for three days when she was just a week old. Before I could even ask, Christina and my mom both stepped up and took care of our children while I was being treated. As hard as it was to be away from my babies, I knew they were in wonderful hands. Christina got up with our daughter in the middle of the night and comforted our son when he missed his mommy and daddy. She stepped in and fulfilled the role of mommy when I couldn’t.
Kyle is most definitely the “fun” uncle. Our two-year-old is obsessed with his Uncle Kyle! Kyle will often play “airplane” with him, give him piggy back rides, and make him laugh so hard he snorts. Our little guy just loves his Uncle Kyle! Kyle has a very tender side as well. Christina and Kyle were the first to arrive at the hospital after our daughter was born. I’ll never forget the first time Kyle held her—it was such a sweet moment. He talked to her, sang to her, and kissed her little forehead. You could just tell he was smitten with his newest niece. I can only imagine what it will be like when he gets to hold his own little one.
There is no doubt in my mind my husband and I will be just as involved their child’s life and our kids will grow up to be super close cousins. I foresee a lot of playdates, family vacations, and holidays spent together. I just can’t wait to love their child, just as they have loved mine. In fact, the child that they adopt has many people waiting to love him or her. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins—we are all so excited for Christina and Kyle and we know any child would be blessed beyond measure to be able to call them mommy and daddy.
