Last year, one of our closest friends decided to enroll in a program which would send him overseas for six months as a contractor for the military. He went through training and got his orders only to break his hand which meant he had to wait to leave. This week, he got the call and he’s now scheduled to leave on June 17th, he’ll be gone for approximately 6 months. He’s incredibly brave for volunteering for this! Even though he has continually explained to me, the worrier, that he will be fine, I will still worry.
His wife decided to throw him a surprise bon voyage party, which was held last night. Matthew and I took beef tri-tip sliders and cookies which I had freshly baked and decorated. Our contributions to the party tells you just about all you need to know about our different personalities. LOL. Everything went over very well and everyone there had a great time!
I have, of course, promised to send him lots and lots of packages filled with homemade cookies. For years, after Matthew and I married, I would send cookies to soliders or sailors that I’d found on a website for servicepeople that didn’t have many people to send them things. When those men came home I sent boxes to my niece’s husband and his twin brother who are both sailors, as well as several friends who are also sailors. I’m an old hat at shipping things overseas, and I can’t wait to start sending him cookies!
These are the cookies that I made. Clouds and airplanes! They took hours to decorate, but I had so much fun!
In case you’re wondering what Matthew got up to this week: he planted grass, mowed the grass, and of course worked. He also rescued a turtle in our yard, so that Gatsby didn’t get it.
Speaking of Gatsby, he did a little light shopping this week:
Sometimes he tries to help himself.
Have a wonderful week!
