It’s been a crazy week to finish out January. The weather has been all over the place here – 50s then 20s and snow then below zero and ice and soon 60s again. Poor Mother Nature – she’s having quite a time!
As a teacher, it’s made the work week a bit crazy too. We had a professional development day on Monday where I spent the day writing curriculum with my colleagues. We’re really excited for some new ideas next year, incorporating some more modern books and more relatable novels for students instead of only classics. More than anything, I just want my students to like reading by the time they leave my class beyond anything else. I just loved reading so much as a kid and still as an adult. I know how many great books are out there, classics and “beach reads” alike, so I feel like it’s my job to expose students to all the books out there beyond what they typically read in high school. I’m hopeful the students will be excited too.
After Monday, we had a day off and two delayed starts this week beause of snow and below zero temperatures. It threw off the whole week for the students, but they love the snow, as do I, even if it makes the schedule wonky. It’s too pretty not to like!
Aside from weather, we had a friend’s bridal shower this past weekend and an evening of watching football with some friends and their son Liam. My friend Rebecca’s bridal shower was adorable – many of our friends were there with their children. It’s always so cute to see the little kids get together and just run around playing, no matter where we are. They all just like each other so much. Then, we went to watch football with Matt and Christina and their son Liam. He just loves Steve so much – it’s too cute. He follows Steve around the house, sits on him, plays on him, and asks him everything he can think of and more. Always a great time!
This coming weekend will be our 12 year anniversary. I cannot believe and am simultaneously so happy we have been together so long. It feels like just yesterday and yet like my whole life. I appreciate how much we enjoy one another’s company, how much time we spend together, and how we balance each other out. Hopefully the weather will hold up this weekend to celebrate on Saturday. Fingers crossed!
