Isabella has been dying to go camping but our weekends have been busy recently. So last week we told her she could invite some friends over for a backyard campout. I thought she would invite some girls over from her pre-school to sleepover. Instead, she wanted to ask the two neighbor boys over!
So we arranged it with the boys’ parents and Friday we had a full house with the parents, the two boys, and their baby sister. We grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. We set up the fire pit and taught the kids how to cook s’mores.
When it got dark, we pulled out the glow sticks. The kids had so much fun making necklaces and bracelets. I was worried the boys would be afraid of the dark in the camper so we also made glow-in-the-dark jars to act as night lights.
It started to rain so the boy’s parents said “goodbye” and we headed into the camper to watch a movie.
Around midnight, we told everyone it was time for bed. The kids climbed into the bunks in the camper and we could hear them whispering about having a “night mission.” We could hear the boys explain to Isabella that a night mission is when the kids wait for the parents to go to sleep and then the kids get up and play all night. As soon as Michael and I lay down to go to sleep, the kids attacked us and tried to tickle us!
We had so much fun, but we were really tired on Saturday! Isabella is already begging to have another campover!
