Today, I took a day off from teaching to chaperone Colby’s field trip. His fourth grade class went to a local dinner theater to see a version of Cinderella called “Cinderella’s Glass Slipper.” Colby enjoyed having me attend, but he told me before we left to please just act like a teacher and not his mom! So, I was on my best behavior and did not do anything embarrassing like hug and kiss him in front of his friends! It was also interesting to sit back and watch many of my former students enjoying themselves since I teach third grade and these former students are now in fourth grade. I love that I have the flexibility to take a day of leave and get a substitute to just be a “mom” sometimes! I also fondly remember chaperoning his kindergarten field trip to the pumpkin patch a few years ago. Of course, that was when it was cool for Mommy to come with him on a field trip!
