Easter Day is a day of great celebration, starting off at church with a celebratory mass – “alleluia“. This year we also had two birthdays to celebrate on Jean’s side of the family, sister Mary and nephew Alec both within a couple days of Easter. Normally we celebrate at one of our homes and cook dinner, but this year my Mom wanted to go out, her treat. We went to a very nice Easter buffet with endless choices. Everyone enjoyed their meals. It was nice getting together with everyone. Even Alec who goes away to school was able to make it home for a long weekend before upcoming finals over the next couple weeks.
Bret and I look forward to celebrating Easter with a child. We want the child to grow up knowing the true religious meaning of Easter. At the same time, we want them to grow up enjoying the fun aspects of Easter as well, including: decorating eggs, participating in an Easter egg hunt whether it be at home, elsewhere (or maybe both), going to see the Easter bunny and surprising them with a yearly Easter basket.
The girls, Shirley and Betty celebrated Easter with a car ride to visit family. We stopped at a park like area with a pond, took a walk with them, including near the water where Shirley tried to catch a fish (actually we think she just wanted to make a new friend and play). We also played frisbee with the girls and just let them run. By the time we were ready to eat, they were ready to nap.
Betty has recovered from her spay surgery and is happy to be able to run again. She felt she was ready the second day after the surgery, so keeping her from running was quite a chore. Thankfully she is all healed up and ready to play again. Her distance eyesight has developed. One day she discovered what Shirley likes to watch out the window, like the birds, squirrels, etc. Her greatest discovery one evening was seeing deer in the back yard. She watched them for about a half hour very intrigued by them. It is fun to watch her as she discovers and experiences new things.
Weather has not been to cooperative in allowing us to finish yard cleanup so that project continues. Plans to put in a garden this year are in the works. We have to first put in a fence though to keep the deer out. We hope to get this done over the next month weather allowing. By then, it should be a perfect time to plant since even the nights should be warm enough that nothing needs to be covered. We have learned from past experience that planting most things too early is just a waste of time.
