This weekend we took a trip with my sister (Beth), her husband (Bill), and our good friends (Allison and Evan). We rented a house out in the country near Charlottesville, VA for the 4th of July. Before we left though, I wanted to go to the Barracks Row parade, Our neighborhood in Capital Hill has a really fun parade every Fourth of July that we love going to. Local high school bands, cheer groups, and every neighborhood school marches down the street while we get to catch up with neighbors. It’s a really neat neighborhood tradition.
Later that afternoon we drove out to western Virginia for a weekend of hiking, campfires, boardgames, and spending time outside. The weekend did not disappoint. We went hiking in the Blue Riudge Mountains before getting caught in a rainstorm. It was a warm, humid day, but the view was definitely worth it.
Later that day we went to a blackberry farm to check out local produce and honey. The farm had goats so we got to visit them. They were much more friendly than I would have guessed. It made me so excited to be able to bring our child with us in the future. I can just imagine introducing him or her to friendly goats, trying a sweet blackberry or spoonful of honey.
It was really special to be able to spend the fourth of July in a small down with famijly and close friends. We are both so excited to share this summer tradition with our child in the future!
