Next to some sleepovers, we also had some winter-weather here. Whenever there is expected night-frost a few nights in a row, a few volunteers in our village are working on a night-schedule to turn the parkinglot in front of our elementary school into a giant ice-rink. It’s amazing to see how, in a few nights, great things can be achieved!
They spray small layers of water onto the parking lot and within 2 or 3 days, everybody is welcome to join the ice-rink! Unfortunately, we had to work those days and the ice is very thin, so it melts really quick. But as you can see below, the children had some great times on the ice! The children are also allowed to have more playtime during these days, so they also made some lovely snowmens! Or as we call them ‘sneeuwpoppen’.
That cold weather also gives us some time for DIY. Roel is working on a sidetable for one of our closest friends. It’s a birthday gift and Roel used a large tree trunk. He sanded and polished it himself and is now adding some layers of varnish to protect the stem. Roel loves to work with wood! It needs just one more layer of varnish and some wheels on the bottum and it’s ready to be gifted!
I (Evelien) spend some time with her sewing machine as wel. I have made some maturnity-gifts for friends and co-workers who are about to give birth, and ofcourse I wanted to make something to add to our own clothing-collection! It’s hard to see on this picture, but it’s a very soft off-white fabric with elephants, giraffes and zebras on it. It’s lovely! And of course, Roel had to sneak up on me to take a picture, because I really don’t like to be photographed…. And it worked!
