Hi, Tim and I have had such a busy month that I thought I would try my hand writing a journal and tell you about our adventures in the month of July. At the beginning of the month, our nephews came to spend a week. It was a fun time filled with Whiffleball tournaments, campfires and cooking s’mores. Tim took them up to the UP for a few days for a guys’ fishing trip. It was the first time that the younger two had done any river fishing, and they were pretty excited trying on their new waders! However, the highlight of their visit was not the fishing or even the trip to Cedar Point, but instead was the mini driving lesson that Tim gave them in the driveway. Each one got a chance to sit behind the wheel and test out his skills, and each one seemed pretty proud and excited about it. The youngest can’t wait for his next lesson.
Not long after they went home, our other sister-in-law was flying home from her vacation in Poland. Being that trying to change planes with a baby, car seat, and two carry-ons was hard to juggle on her way too Poland, we decided that on her way home she would get a direct flight into Chicago and Tim and I would go pick her and the baby up. This worked out well for us too because we got a mini vacation in the Windy City! We saw that you could rent kayaks and paddle down the Chicago River, but because this was such a quick trip, we just didn’t have the time. It is definitely on the agenda for the next trip!
Maybe it was missing that chance that made us choose to wrap up our month with a family trip to the beach. It was our youngest nephew’s first trip to the beach and his first kayak ride. He really liked the beach and wading into the water, but the kayak ride seemed to lull him to sleep. We want to take him kayaking at my mom’s house where he will be able to see some loons and turtles and fish during the ride.
August has started out a little less busy than July, but we are looking forward to a family reunion and our annual trip to the county fair. Tim and I have also talked about taking a few days and traveling around the Michigan coastline to visit many of the different lighthouses. I am not sure we will be able to fit that it this summer though, it might have to wait until next year.
We hope your summer is going well and that you are finding some smiles during these hot summer days.
Until next time, Tim and Christine
