We were fortunate to have great weather in Northern Virginia this weekend. Matt and I decided to take advantage of the somewhat warm and very sunny weather and we visited one of the National Parks near where we live. Great Falls National Park is on the Potomic River and gives a great view of a beautful waterfall where the river flows through the Mather Gorge. There were many other people there taking advantage of the weather and we got to see people from other countries, familes with kids of all ages, often with their four-legged doggie friends along for the adventure. After taking in the beautiful views of the waterfall, Matt and I hiked up and down the river for several miles, enjoying nature and learning about the canals built along the river to help promote trade in the early days of our nation.
One of our favorite things to do on weekends is to hike and be outside. We have plans to take advantage this summer of the many parks, hikes, and campgrounds near where we live. We haven’t done a lot of camping since we left Colorado in 2015, but we are looking forward to dusting off our camping gear and getting to know the wilderness of Virginia and Maryland.
