Now, halfway into summer, the constant rains have stopped. We are finally able to work on the garden fence which is about 75% complete. The vegetables that we thought had little hope for are thriving. Though the plants are small for this time of year, they are just loaded with vegetables, as well as additional buds for more. We picked our first two cucumbers yesterday, as well as several assorted peppers.
Bret’s mom celebrated a birthday last week. We took her to a nice newer restaurant she had been wanting to try. She continued her celebration with a week off of work enjoying various get togethers and events throughout the week.
A local fish fry last weekend was an annual event we look forward to. Great food, great local entertainment, seeing many neighbors and friends made it an enjoyable evening on a perfect summer night, ending in a fireworks show. We look forward to taking a child to this annual event, as it offers a variety of rides, games, etc… geared toward children. The proceeds go to the local school for childrens events through the year as well as scholarships.
Shirley and Betty are just loving the outdoors now that it is not continuously raining. Though they do not like rainy days, they ironically enjoy playing in the water. Shirley loves the fountain that has the pad to step on turning on the water. Although originally intended to provide them with fresh water any time they needed while outside, she still prefers it as a toy. Betty likes it as well, but prefers walking in or sitting in the kiddie pool. Her newest discovery is her favorite though, the pulsating sprinkler, which Shirley joins her in running through. They will play in the water as long as they can and are not likely to stop until the water is turned off. Then the running begins, chasing each other around. By the end of the day, they are just exhausted from their days activities, ready for a sound nights sleep, only to want to do it all over again the next day.
