Shirley and Betty, both celebrated their birthdays the last couple weeks. Shirley is now four and Betty one. They each had a special canine birthday cake treat for the occassion. We couldn’t imagine our household without both these girls in our lives. Betty was a great addition to the family last November and the girls have become best friends and playmates.
Bret and I also celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary. We enjoyed a delicious steak dinner at home that we prepared together. This year instead of going out, we decided to spend a quite evening at home with the girls. The traditional fifth year anniversary gift is wood. We decided we are going to take a recently fallen hickory tree that though came down is still in good condition, get it milled by someone we know locally and make a new kitchen table we can enjoy for years to come. The new kitchen table will be larger allowing us to accomodate more family, friends and guests comfortably at the dinner table.
We were off the week after our anniversary and had a full, busy week. Our church had their annual fundraising bazaar where we all volunteered in different capacities, including Bret’s Mom. It was a great day, a successful event and an enjoyable time spent with fellow parishioners and local community members that attended.
The foundation for the barn workshop/apartment for Bret’s Mom is finally underway. The crew doing the foundation formed the perimeter. Bret then, along wtith the help of some friends layed out the plumbing that needed to be completed prior to the concrete slab being poured. The need for this to be precise took a little more time than expected, but is now set to be easily tapped into when the structure is up and it is time to finish off the inside. Though a lot of work, we did have time to enjoy with our friends that helped with a nice dinner and bonfire to end the day on a relaxing note.
Later in the week, one of my long-time friends visited for several days. It was great seeing her and catching up in person. The first day was a bit of a wash out with an entire day of rain, but then we enjoyed beautiful fall weather allowing us to attend some local events and enjoy the outdoors.
