As we mentioned in our profile, holidays are a big to do for our family, this Thanksgiving was no exception! Although, it didn’t go quite as planned! Our immediate and extended family used to run in the Drumstick Dash, which is a Thanksgiving Day run held in downtown Indianapolis. We would all get there early enough to meet up and head to the start. Some of the family runs and some walk, but all start together. The run started becoming so popular that is was just too crowded to truly enjoy so Papa (that‘s what the kids in the family call Kacee’s dad) started a family fun run/walk at his and Grandma‘s house instead! This is our third annual family fun run/walk and it went swimmingly! Except … our plan was for Kacee’s brother and sister-in-law to host Thanksgiving at their house (they have a newborn so it was easiest to load up the troops and head over there) however, we got a phone call that Aniston (our niece) had been sick over night and into the day. There were 8 of us (plus 2 pups) that were going to be over there celebrating the holiday and that’s a lot of tempting fate when you’re looking at a possible stomach bug! So we pumped the brakes and regrouped. The biggest issue was that they were cooking (amongst many other things) the turkey! Who can have Thanksgiving without a turkey?! We made a trip to the grocery store to load up on last minute food items (the donut holes and bagels from the morning run can only take you so far) and made a late game time decision to stay at Papa and Grandma’s house. We missed out other little family of four something fierce but as it turns out, the holiday really is just about being surrounded by loved ones, even when all your plans come crashing down around you! Everyone pulled together and both households had complete meals. All in all it was a great day … Nikki got her Chicago Bears win and Kacee got her Mac and Cheese (she’s a vegetarian so that was a major upgrade from the turkey!) plus, we both had each other and our family. Next up, we have some Christmas decorating to do!
