We are back after a few weeks of holiday festivities! We spend some great days with family and friends during Christmas and New Year’s Eve. We enjoyed talking, playing and eating with all the important people in our lives.
And on top of that, Evelien also had her birthday, so we had quite some celebrations in the last couple of weeks! We both realised that we didn’t really were in the pictures we took, but that is mainly because we are the ones making them 🙂
On Christmas Eve we spend the night together and unwrapped our gifts! I got Roel some kitchentools (he loves gadgets) and Roel got me some lovely bath salts, so I can enjoy myself a long hot bath in the wintertime. I also got Roel a onesie for the little one, with the flag of the state we live in (Brabant).
The next day we visited Roel’s parents and his sister was there with her family too. So we had a busy day playing soccer outside and cooking for everyone. Marieke (Roel’s sister) loves to make desserts, she made a great chocolate cake. Unfortunately we forgot to take a picture….
The next day we spend at Evelien’s parents, with her sister en family as well. Because Jip and Bent (our nephews) are young, we usually have lunch instead of dinner so they can be put to bed in time. We also unwrapped gifts, played some games and the little ones were allowed to watch movies on their Ipads at the end of the afternoon.
And New Years Eve we always meet up with our closest friends and their childeren. We all make some fingerfood and enjoy a great night of chatting, watch the fireworks and (ofcourse) eating. In the Netherlands, one special New Years snack is the ‘oliebol’. That’s kind of a deep fried ball of (sweet) dough and it’s eaten with powdered sugar. You can buy them in store, but they are much greater if made at home. Luckily one of our moms loves to do that, so we always have some fresh and homemade oliebollen at hand!
And last week was also my (Evelien) birthday. We celebrated that by going out to dinner together. And a great surprise as we stepped outside: it snowed! The first snow of 2019. I really love (LOVE) snow, so this was a great surprise on my birthday!
