We have lived in our home for just shy of two years and there really is no place like home! We’ve made so many happy memories here. From big things like helping our son learn to walk and talk and celebrating holidays, to small things like making dinner together then turning on a Disney movie.
I thought it would be helpful to do a journal entry of a tour of our home.
Our favorite room in our house has got to be our preschool/playroom area for our son. I studied early childhood and elementary education in school, and have loved using what I learned to help our son. In this room we do art projects like water coloring or play-doh or draw (scribble) on the whiteboard. We have a bookshelf and a cozy reading nook where we snuggle up and share a story! There are shelves with activities like blocks, puzzles, musical instruments and animal toys (Oliver’s favorite!) As parents we really want Oliver to have a magical childhood and we try to make this room exciting and fun for him to play in. 🙂
We spend our time in the kitchen making food together. Scott loves to make Italian food. I love finding new recipes to try new kinds of food. And Oliver loves when we help him make waffles. Haha he loves pouring the water and stirring the batter. It’s fun getting us all involved for meal times. We love family dinners. Yum! The kitchen table is used for game nights and art projects.
I love doing arts and crafts and the rooms in our home are a reflection of that. It’s always fun to display something Oliver or I have made. Now if we could just get Scott to do some art that would be great. 😉
In the living room Oliver has a small toy shelf, a little table and some giant blocks. We want Oliver to feel like this is his house too, so there are Oli sized things in every room. 🙂 In the living room we have my favorite rocking chair, which we use for stories, snuggling, and watching movies. As Oliver gets older more and more he’s loving Disney movies. He really likes Monsters Inc. for the monsters and Coco for the skeletons. Haha he loves all things spooky!
Our basement is currently unfinished but one day we will finish building down there. It’ll give us a few extra bedrooms, a movie and room, and we will be able to move the preschool/playroom downstairs.
In our backyard we have a patio space where Oli likes to play with toys and do activities. I love our view! We get to look out and see the beautiful mountains. Sometimes when Oliver is in bed, Scott and I will go outside on the patio with blankets, look up at the stars, snuggle, and talk.
We live in a great neighborhood, lots of young families to play with. Oliver has friends in the neighborhood that we do play dates, church, and neighborhood activities.
We love our home and plan to be for a long time to come. I have aunts, uncles, and cousins here in the valley that we visit and they help tend Oliver occasionally. Both mine and Scott’s families live in Salt Lake County, so we drive down to visit them often. Family means everything to us, so we’re lucky to have family within driving distance.
We are so grateful for our home and the memories it holds. We eagerly look forward to bringing another child into our home. We’ve thought a lot about how we would decorate their bedroom, what toys they like might have out, and where we could put their tiny clothes and blankets. We can’t wait. We love our home! Even if sometimes it gets a little messy. 🙂
