In our hometown, the 4th of July is a huge celebration. There is a week long carnival as well as three nights of fireworks. The final night of fireworks, is usually about a 45 minute show, the last 5 of which leave you absolutely breathless from all the explosions in the sky. Matthew and I, as well as Gatsby travel to Michigan every year specifically to attend this event.
My family loves the holiday. I have a cousin who states that it’s his favorite holiday, as such he puts on the party. Before the fireworks begin, he goes down to the riverfront and secures a patch of grass big enough for the whole family, and whomever else we bring or who stumbles into our area. Everyone brings a dish to pass, and there is always so much food that when people nearby comment on our group, they often get invited to partake. We’ve never really met a stranger, everyone is treated like family.
It’s a great event and we can’t wait to be able to take our child to this event. The kids in the family love our July 4th celebration. They get all sorts of treats, they run around with their cousins, and they get to see an incredible show. Also most of them end up covered in enough glowing things (necklaces, hats, bracelets,) that they could land a plane.
