The other night after bedtime prayers, Jack said “everyone in my class has either a brudder or a sister. It’s not fair.” Then we got into a long conversation about life and fairness and God’s plan for us.
I thought to myself “many times I feel like Jack does.” But I don’t know many people who DON’T feel like that at one time or another. Someone doesn’t get a promotion they feel they deserve, a woman ends up with an unplanned pregnancy, a couple can’t have a baby biologically, people in Africa are fleeing a civil war…the list goes on and on.
Who decides what is “fair” and what isn’t? I know we are blessed a million times over- in many different ways. Would others in terrible situations think “that’s not fair that they have so much?” Probably. And when I remind myself of that, waiting to see if we will be selected by birthparents doesn’t seem like such a hardship. At least we are in a position to TRY to adopt. For that, I am very grateful.
