After five years of infertility and a miscarriage following an IVF treatment, we decided to take an emotionally needed break from trying to conceive. We talked about our options for growing our family and adoption was always a positive possibility. Surprisingly, Tracey became unexpectedly pregnant naturally. We were ecstatic! At our 20 week fetal scan we learned that our baby had a fatal congenital heart defect. Devastated! We carried him to term knowing that once he was born his life would be brief. Leif, which means one who is loved, was born on March 2, 2016. He was a beautiful baby and surprised us all by staying with us for an amazing 32 days. Leif felt the sun on his face, the ocean on his skin, and innumerable kisses. All he knew was love and he rewarded us with smiles and giggles and precious memories. We are grateful to Leif for the gift he gave us and are very proud of the way we parented him. He is forever our son and we miss him terribly.
