My brother had children before I did. So that means his kids got to choose the special name my mom would take as a grandmother. The eldest granddaughter, who is now 14, chose Mimi. I’m not even sure how or when, but it stuck. And now that is what she is… Mimi. Let me just say, she is the best Mimi ever.
She loves her grandchildren. There is Karaline, who I mentioned before. She just finished her freshman year of high school. She is beautiful inside and out and has the biggest heart. Katie is now ten years old, and she has always been the spunky, hilarious, outgoing granddaughter. She is silly and makes you laugh. As she’s getting older, she is the biggest helper and will do anything for you. Next is Trey, who is six years old. He is shy and doesn’t say a lot, but he is so smart and can build any lego set you put in front of him. His favorite thing in the world is to go fishing with my brother.
When I had Hannah, Mimi was in the delivery room. Hannah stole her heart right away. Even though Mimi lives in North Carolina, Hannah knows she is just a call away. We talk to Mimi almost everyday. I believe every one of Hannah’s favorite stuffed animals was a gift from her. Mimi knows just how to make each grandchild feel so loved and valued. And of course Mimi can spoil them anytime because that is what grandma’s do!
Now that we are in the adoptive process, Mimi can’t wait for another grandchild. She is one of our biggest supporters. When we adopt a baby, I’m sure she will be here within days to help us with whatever we need. It’s been such a pleasure to watch my mom love our daughter, and I know her love will just expand when another baby comes into our family.
