The past period was a period of mixed feelings. Fortunately, there were more ups than downs, but unfortunately they were there too. Let’s first tell about the 2 sad moments in recent months, the death of JoY’s grandfather and grandmother.
First there was the death of Joy’s grandfather. He had been sick for several years, so his death did not come unexpectedly. Especially the last 2 weeks of his life we already expected this.
As expected, when the death of grandfather came, so unexpected was the death of Joy’s grandmother. To get some rest during this hard period we were with Cilia and Gerard (the parents of Joy), Kim and Edwin (her sister and brother in law) and Gwen (her niece) on holiday in Belgium when half past week the news came to us that the grandma of Joy had died, only 13 days after grandfather!
Although this is of course very sad news, we comfort ourselves with the thoughts of the beautiful memories we have on both of them and the beautiful moments we had together.
Although it is a big step towards happy moments, we are going to tell about it now. Since our last blog, Gwen has been joining us several times. It’s very cozy every time and meanwhile we have almost a fixed program when she comes to sleep with us because she don’t want anything else. On Saturday night we organize our ‘cinema evening’. We then put the airbed down in the living room, close the curtains and put on our pyamas after which we watch a Disney movie. On sunday we go swimming (Gwen is crazy about it) and then often go to Feline. Feline is the daughter of our friends Gert and Ramona, who Gwen likes to play with very much.
During the past months, the weather was wonderful in the Netherlands. Days that are always very cozy, such as King’s Day, birthdays of family, friends and their children are extra fun. We spent a lot of these holidays outside and more than once we finished with a BBQ.
The last day we would like to mention is the A New Way-day last May. At that day we had the possibility to have conversations with many couples who adopted their child from the USA (by A New Way and HOAA) again. These kind of days always give us a lot of inspiration and it’s everytime a confirmation for us that we want to be a warm and great family for a child. The chat we had with Jeanne Tate was very inspiring too.
The only ‘negative’ side of a day like this, is that we want to welcome a child very bad and we have to watch out for not becoming very impatient. Thinking about the fact that there is a person for who this process is much more difficult, makes us feel kind of guilty and keeps us with both feet on the ground.
Again, we hope reading this blog gave you a good impression of our live.
Joy and Frank
