This is our first journal post and we’re excited to share more of what our daily life is like with any one who might want to learn more about us. We’re finishing up our semester at the universities we’re professors at, so that means a lot of grading. (But the four months off we have all summer is pretty awesome!) To be honest, we don’t mind the end-of-semester grading because – like the rest of the year – the majority of our work is done right from home and we’re so blessed to really, really love our jobs – teaching college and subjects we both love. Plus, don’t tell our students, but we do a lot of our “job” in sweats and tee-shirts and sometimes even in front of the tv! (We knew those PhDs would pay off!)
Bailey loves to grow vegetables and flowers and the warmer weather has also brought the gift of gardening. The front of our house is already filled with tulips, daffodils, and all kinds of little green buds that will soon turn into pretty blooms. All summer long, we’ll have fresh cut flowers all around the house – what a treat! And the vegetable beds are already prepared and growing, too. Bailey loves to cook with food that we’ve grown. (From Steve: And she’s an AMAZING cook!)
A few weeks ago we met our longtime hero at a talk in Detroit, Dr. Cornell West. It was so exciting and so moving – we’ve loved him and his powerful ideas about love and social justice for many, many years. (Bailey took this picture of Steve and Dr. West just before his talk.) It was such a huge privilege to hear him talk about US politics, race in America, social justice, and the need for more love in our country and our world. Meeting him in person before the talk was an extra special treat we’ll always cherish.
This journal option is new for us – and one of us (Bailey) really likes to talk (!), so we may have written too much for our first one…Thanks for reading this and taking the time to consider our family. God bless you.
