In between preparations, we thought it would be a great idea to take some time off for a short holiday. We both needed some time to relax. So we took a week off at work and went to Sint Jansklooster where we rented a lovely holidayhome.
Sint Jansklooster lies up north and is situated in a beautiful area with lots of water, canals and boats. In the past, it was an area were a lot of peat moss was marked. That’s were all the manmade canals come from.
We never visited this area before, but we were both surprised with the beauty of it! We took a hike through a national park called De Wierden. It was a very cold but bright day and the walk went trough fields of cane. We also had to cross some small canals using ferries and we had to pull ourselves forward by using a rope. That was so much fun!
We also visited Giethoorn. A town nearby that you can only visit bij bike, on foot or by boat. That’s because all the houses are built on small islands, surrounded bij those canals. They even hava a fire boat, because there is no way a fire truck can drive through town! I totally forgot to take pictures when we were walking through Giethoorn, so I added a picture from Google to show you what it’s like. And because Giethoorn is best seen from the water, we joined a touroperator for a guided tour across the water!
