One of Ryan’s best friends from law school got married this summer in Cape May, NJ. Ryan has visited Cape May before, but this was our first time visiting as a couple. We talked a lot about what it would be like to visit Cape May with our child. The beaches are beatiful and there is so much to do! Including a free zoo and an arcade on the board walk (which Ryan was already familar with!). We often find ourselves talking about potential traditions and the memories we want to create for our child.
Perhaps it is all of the reflecting I am doing while waiting for our baby to arrive, but I find myself reminiscing about my own childhood. Just recently I was sitting outside in our yard taking in the warmth of the sun. It was late in the morning just before the sun reached its highest point in the sky. The sky was clear and I could feel my skin absorbing the warmth from the sun. I was immediately transported, in memory, to the summers of my childhood. I remember visiting my Aunt (I call her Titi) on Long Island and playing outside in her pool or tree house; playing hockey, basketball or building bicycle jumps with my cousins; and all of the outdoors icebreaker activities during vacation bible school (water balloon fights, potato sack racing, obstacle courses, etc). The warmth of the sun reminded me of what it was like to spend countless hours playing in the intense summer heat when I was a child.
We are excited to establish traditions for our child and create a lifetime of memories that he will hold dear.
