My parents are coming over for dinner this afternoon. As I write this, I have coq au vin simmering in my crock pot. I love to cook and try new recipes. If it doesn’t come out, we may be calling Domino’s! 🙂 I’m also making an ice cream cake, a broccoli casserole, salad, rice, and beer bread!
I can remember as a little girl that we weould frequently have Sunday dinners, although sometimes they were on Saturdays, too. My mom would set the table in the dining room (which was pretty much only for company and piling stuff on) with her china. My mom was and still is an excellent cook. We still go to my parents’ house for dinner sometimes, but more often they come here or we like to go out to eat also. So, to keep with tradition, I will be setting my dining room table this afternoon. I have my own china, but I also recently became the keeper of my grandmother’s china. It means a lot to me to have and use my grandmother’s china this afternoon. My greatest hope is that I will be able to pass on the importance of family get-togethers and traditions to Colby as well as to a future son or daughter.
