Thankful, Mindful, Wonderful
by Tom – Dec. 2018
When I think back about all the days in our life together that has brought us to today, I could write for hours and hours about our winding road towards starting a family. Like a lot of other folks out there (and on this site), I’ll be the first to tell you that, in the words of the old Scottish poet Robert Burns, “the best laid plans of mice and men so often go awry.”
However, as best as we can this year, we’ve both tried our best to live in the moment and make the best of the time we have with our families this Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving for us is usually a multi-house, multi-meal affair spent at my sister’s home and my brother-in-law’s home, both in South Jersey. Like most families, it usually entails eating way (WAY WAY WAY) too much and rolling home with leftovers and lots of great new memories. This year was no different.
Over the course (after course after course) of the day in two different places with those we love, I can honestly say I’m thankful for everything I have. I try to be mindful of this when the emotions of our adoption journey creep up, as so often can happen during this time of year. But at the end of all things, I am lucky to have such a wonderful wife, and a wonderful family, in my world every day.
I hope everyone out there had a heck of a thanksgiving!
Danielle and our neice Harper (also our goddaugher) have a lot of fun together on days like today.
Everything I learned about being a goof I learned from my mom.
