On April 2nd we had a meeting to prepare us to take care of a baby. Three other (waiting) adoptive parents were present. The first part of the meeting told us what the brain does when you are waiting on something you can’t control. Just being aware of that and sharing these feelings with the other couples helped. After this an experienced midwife explained to us how to take care of a baby in it’s first weeks. When to alert pediatrician and when something is natural. Also what to bring with us when we travel, and what to buy when we arrive.
Since we got on the matching list we didn’t stop getting ready. We got a stroller, maxi Cosi and a buggy from Donny’s brother. It was fun to find out how it works. Everyone helps out, with clothes and toys. The closet is already full with clothes, hydrophilic diapers and burp cloths. The baby rooms doesn’t only have furniture now, but is ready to take care of a baby. Even our nieces and nephews are already creating welcome gifts. We are grateful that our family supports us during this adoptive process.
