Meet Betty, the newset addition to our family. She is a black lab, born Septemebr 28 and officially joined our family November 24.
After having to put down our older dog Grace a little over a month ago, Shirley, our three year old Lab/Shepard mix was lost and lonely. The extra time we spent with her was helpful, but was no substitute for the companionship of her big sister. We intended on waiting until we adopted to get another dog, but seeing how sad Shirley was made us rethink that decision. Mid November, we learned of a litter of pups that would be ready to go to their new homes the last weekend of November. We made an appointment to see them and decided on a smaller black female lab that was still available. Shirley had also been the runt of her litter, though what she lacks in size, she makes up for in sprirt. It is becoming apparent this will be the case with Betty as well.
Betty has been adjusting well to her new home, though is still in training, overall she is doing well. Shirley was a little uncertain of her the first couple of days but has now welcomed Betty. They are quickly becoming inseparable friends/siblings. Shirley is showing great tolerance as Betty chews on her and is ever so careful as they playfully wrestle with each other.
We are happy they are getting along well. Grace had trained Shirley well as a puppy, now it is Shirley’s turn to train Betty. It is great to see Shirley’s happy spirit came back out since losing her older sister. Now it is her turn to be the big sister looking after her new sister and companion.
